Google Workspace: Users With Existing Gmail Accounts

LaneCC's Google accounts, what to do with an existing account

Last Updated: May 31st, 2022

What if I already have a Google Workspace account?

No problem! Your G Suite for Education account will not affect your existing personal Google or Gmail account. Your G Suite for Education account at Lane provides the benefits of using Gmail and other Google tools in an ad-free environment with 50 GBs of storage on Google Drive.

Can I merge my personal Google Workspace account with my Lane Community College G Suite for Education Account?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to combine two accounts or to merge data. A data moving tool is available for certain services if you’d like to transfer your data to your G Suite for Education account. However, the tool only is available for some G Suite for Education Apps. Keep in mind that your Lane-issued account will be inactivated 4 terms after you stop taking classes; at that time, the only way to regain access will be to enroll in a class at LCC. For more information see the G Suite for Education Accounts Help page.

Can I forward email from my Lane-provided email to a personal email account?

It is technically possible to forward your Lane email to your personal email, but we don’t recommend it:

  1. Delivery of mail to you and from you will be less reliable; subject to spam filtering, delays, and delivery failures.
  2. It will make your private grade or other information less secure.
  3. We cannot guarantee delivery in the event of a complaint or legal issue.

If you absolutely need to forward your email to a different account instructions can be found here.
