Currently, Moodle limits the point value of activities such as Assignments and Forums to 100 points. If you would like to assign a point value over 100 points to an Activity, there are three workarounds:
- Set Activity's Grade to "No Grade," Replace with Grade Item in Gradebook
- Separate Activity into Different Components
- Create Subcategory, Assign it 100+ Max Grade
Set Activity's Grade to "No Grade," Replace with Grade Item in Gradebook
First, click Edit Settings for the activity in question. Then, under the Grade category, set the grade type to None and click Save changes. This will remove the activity from your Gradebook.

Next, enter your Gradebook and click on the Setup tab near the top. Then click Add grade item near the bottom of the page. If you would like, give the grade item the same name as your activity. Then assign it the maximum grade you want your activity to have and click Save changes.

Once you're ready to grade your students' activity work, enter the Grader Report of your Gradebook and enter their grades to this grade item instead.
Separate Activity into Different Components
If you have an activity which can be easily separated by different components, for example, a particular activity which requires a student to submit a rough draft, a peer review, a bibliography, and so forth, you can assign each component a point value which will ultimately be greater than 100 points. Simply create these new activities from the main page of your Moodle course.
Create Subcategory, Assign it 100+ Max Grade
First, enter your Gradebook and click on the Setup tab. Then click on Full view directly below these tabs. Scroll to the bottom and click on Add category - clicking Category Total to the left of the page will reveal a Maximum grade option which is where you'll enter your preferred point value. Then click Save changes.
Next, Move your activity into this category. Despite its own point value, your gradebook will ignore it and instead take the point value of the subcategory.
