Courses that did not get migrated to Canvas are inaccessible for instructors, but saved as a Moodle backup file in our OFFLINE archives. The saved backup is comprehensive and includes everything within the course (hidden and visible activities, assignments, quizzes and quiz attempts, grades, enrollments, uploaded files, activities, layout preferences, events, and even course access logs — the works!).

If you want access to a course in the archives, email the following information to atc@lanecc.edu:

• course name and CRN (if known)
• year and term
• instructor last name

Once restored, the course will become available to you in your Moodle Dashboard, assuming you have extended Moodle access. This is instructor only access; student (and instructor) user data will not be retrieved.

Archive Policy

The college is legally required to comply with Oregon State Archive regulations for Grade Records (166-450-0120) and Distance Education/Learning Records (166-450-0030), which mandate maintaining digital archives for a minimum of five years. This duration is limited to five years because our LMS is not designated as an official repository for student records, such as official grades or enrollment records. Instead, materials like assignment grades, quizzes, or drafts are classified as Administrative Records.

Despite this, Academic Technology recognizes the significant value of the data contained within courses and prior to 2026 had adopted a conservative procedure of retaining course archives for 10 years. After 10 years, course archives will reach their "End of Life" and be irreversibly removed (no recovery possible) from all locations without instructor notification. This means that minimally, Moodle courses will be available through 2031. Given the pace of technological change and platform compatibility, it may become nonviable to keep Moodle archives past 5 years going forward.
