Canvas (canvas.lanecc.edu) is Lane’s learning management system (LMS), where you’ll find your courses, assignments, grades, and course communication.
Help is built directly into Canvas: click Help located at the bottom of the left-hand navigation menu for chat, phone, guides, and support ticket options. This guide explains which option to use and when.
For Students
Need help right now? Canvas Support is available 24/7
Live Canvas support is free and available around the clock, every day — including evenings, weekends, and finals week:
- Chat: In Canvas, go to Help > Chat with Canvas Support
- Phone: Go to Help — the support hotline number is listed in the menu
Tip: If chat won’t load in the Canvas mobile app, open Canvas in a mobile web browser instead.
Find answers yourself
Canvas Student Guides — searchable, step-by-step instructions for everything in Canvas: submitting assignments, checking grades, using the mobile app, and more. Also available in Canvas under Help > Search the Canvas Guides.
Lane-specific questions? Contact the Student Help Desk (SHeD)
Canvas Support can’t help with Lane accounts or registration. Contact the Student Help Desk (SHeD) for authentication issues (L-number and password), myLane questions, or anything else campus-related.
Don’t see your course in Canvas? Courses appear at the start of the term, and only after your instructor publishes them. Instructors are not required to use Canvas (most but not all do!). If the term has started and your registered course is missing, check-in with your instructor and/or contact Student Help Desk (SHeD) for troubleshooting assistance.

- Instructors can add guest users, editing teachers, and non-editing teachers into courses if the user has college credentials and have been provisioned an account.
- There are no enrollment restrictions on development shells and custom courses in the Programs & Groups sub-account. Contact the ATC (atc@lanecc.edu) with enrollment questions.
