Communicating With Students in Your Classes


There are a number of options for sending announcements to your entire class; below are several options listed in order of preference, with the most effective and efficient options at the top. 

Moodle News Forum (BEST CHOICE)

  • Works from anywhere
  • Very easy
  • Sent to each student's preferred email address per mylane profiles AND posted on Moodle course News Forum
  • News Forum provides a central record of all your announcements and allows student to review all previous announcements

Using Moodle News Forum

 
 

Moodle QuickMail

  • Works from anywhere
  • Email individuals, groups, or the entire class
  • Sent to each student's preferred email address per mylane profiles

To use the quickmail block:

  1. Add the Quickmail block if you don't have it already in your block drawer.
  2. Send a message using the quickmail block.
 
 

Moodle Messaging

  • Intended for 1-to-1 communication “text like” but can be used to send a single message to multiple people.
  • Text only
  • Moodle alerts students they have a message.
  • By default, unread messages also get delivered to students via email

mylane Class List - Email Class

  • Not recommended because it ONLY works when an email client is configured and working with the browser (usually on campus on a PC)
  • Sent to each student's preferred email address per mylane profiles
